Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, in America's eyes, into the class of child prodigies. For a child with Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family, this came naturally. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club in Ireland and ran a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was a kid and was very adept in them. The combination of this naturally-born interest with her ability to perform was impressive. She was the recipient of nearly all the Feis Awards for her home nation's theatre and drama was a testament to the fact that she was a natural performer. At the age of 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
